watch out for that sand, it is very fine and won't take much flow to get a sand storm.

Thank you for the information shifty I will keep that in mind. Also i was looking for an auto top off device, it is from Autotopoff.com. My question is, do I just need the float switches along with a pump?
This is what I had in mind: Float switch: http://autotopoff.com/products/SS1/ Pump: http://www.marinedepot.com/Tom_Aquat...FIOFOA-vi.html Let me know what you think! |

I also planned on buying a two of these lights:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MH-18-Metal-...#ht_1854wt_907 Would it be enough light to keep a RBTA and SPS corals? They would be mounted together to provide a total of 356 watts. |

Anyone have ideas for a stocking list? Currently I have 2 clown fish and a tailspot blenny. I am looking for TONS of color and one school of 3 fish. I would also like a yellow tang.

Thankyou! I was originally gonna use one that I bought from my LFS but I wasn't thinking and got one that didn't fit the vinyl tubing coming from the return so I am returning this and I saw the loc-line that came with the overflow kit and I was thinking why not make my own using the loc-line, then I am able to point the flow in 2 different direstions for better surface agitation.

Tomarrow I get the tank wet! One question though, should I glue the PVC pipe down to the sump to the slip bulkhead? Also here is my possible stocking list:
2 clowns 1 tailspot blenny 2-3 blue reef chromis 1 yellow tang 1 diamond watchman goby 1 wrasse (mcCoskers or leopard) 1 golden assessor What do you think? Oh and by the way my LFS gets in leopard wrasses that are already eating brine, should I give it a shot? |

Yes, you want to pvc glue the pipe to the bulkhead or it will leak.
Also I don't think it's a good idea keeping a yellow Tang in a 75 with 10 other fish, But that's just me. |

I will strongly advise you to change the clear return hose with a black colored one. In time due to light availability algae will grow inside and will obstruct the flow.
hope it helps, MaLi

I'm sorry for the late update but today was an interesting day to say the least I got my skimmer, return and RO/DI system (6 stage with a dual DI) thanks to a fellow RC member so after I got everything in place I filled it up with water from my hose. Here is where the fun begins........I mis-measured and the drain line with the gate valve was about 4 inches away from the amp water line! So with a full thanks had to shut off the pumps, drain the overflow section, unscrew and remove all bulkheads and switch the drain pipes! Stupid me already glued in the PVC s it wasn't an easy task! But anyways I am still waiting to order a second light. I will for sure post pics in a little bit once things settle down. By the way the herbie overflow is 100% SILENT! Only thing I can hear is the return and skimmer! Thanks for everyone's help!

Oh boy I have alot of pictures to update! I was extremely busy today and really didn't have any time to mess with the tank or post pictures I'm sorry I know I said I would but I got tangled up in everything! Anyways, today I got the gate valve adjusted to full siphone and is completely silent as I said earlier. I plan on draining it on Thursday or Friday and filling it with RO water mixed with tank water from my LFS frag tank. I also am picking up the rock this weekend and setting it all up. I also ordered the second light today and it will be here on Monday (day after my birthday stupid ups! ) I also was busy simulating emergency situations such as power outages and if my sup is able to withstand the amount of water that flows from the tank, it can! I will posts pictures tomarrow for sure though!

Ok I got a question cause now Im curious cause I have my own 75 gallon reef setup and you have me rethinking something. Why did you create your own return line instead of using the one in the overflow that was intended for that instead in the over flow you have one really short pvc pipe and one long one which is dumping the water to your sump?

It's called a herbie overflow, it basically a 2 line drain which consists of a main drain (short pipe) and a long drain. What happens in you use the short pipe as the main drain and you use the gate valve to adjust the main drain to a full siphon. You need to close it just enough to get the water to settle about a half inch away from the top of the emergency drain. The emergency drain utilizes the second hole and if the main drain ever becomes clogged you water will raise up to the top of the emergency drain which will drain it down to your sump until you can unclog the main drain. Here is a link to the origional thread:
