pistol shrimp snappin!

Just curious.... everyone with pistol shrimp out there, how often do ya hear it snap? I hear my guy all the time, day and night. So today was my day off after a long weekend away and me and the g/f sat on the couch and watched movies all day, and we decided to keep count. I did not touch the tank at all aside for normal flake feeding at around 3.

So from 9am Monday morning until now (1am Tuesday) we counted 27 snaps in 16 hours! Lights were on from 12-8 and there was already 16 pops heard before 'nighttime'

This normal? Or do I have a bully or a stressed out pistol shrimp?

Sometimes I don't hear mine at all, usually it's 1 or 2 pops from 8 am to 5 pm

Mines relatively quite unless someone crawls into his hole and makes him mad. When he was in my 8 gallon I heard him all the time, but in the 66 gallon, I hardly hear him.

I hear my tiger pistol quite often but do not hear my candy cane as much. I would say on average I hear my tiger pistol 10-15 times a day.

Yeah I bet it's the hermits, cuz I literally watch him carry a shell out of his dens and toss them out, sometimes with live hermits! I like teasing him wen I know where he is by putting empty shells in front of his opening lol

Sometimes our Alpheus bellulus snaps that often in some 5 minutes. Doesn't have to mean anything – it's building something and smashing some stones to the right size or anything.

On the other hand, the A. parvirostris we kept before we heard some 4 or 5 times a night and not else, so every shrimp is an individuum and different from all the others.
