I followed this thread along time ago, and everytime i see Ecotech's ads in magazines, i think the display tank is yours. Is that correct? The house and the stand/ tank design is very smilar.

If not, let me know and i will try to post here the ad so you can see it.

Hi Dennis,

Before I start, i'd like to tell you that I LOVE YOUR TANK!!!!! I can not stress this enough man, you have/had an amazing tank and have been an inspiration to me for my next build.... which brings me to my question...

You know the pockets behind the overflow that cover the grates/grills (not the dry well for vortechs) - what is that for? Why do you need to cover the grills? And do the pockets extend all the way down to the bottom, or do they stop at the bottom level of the bottom grates?

Please shed some light on this as I am in the process of building a cube and am trying to replicate your tank inch by inch, as best as possible.

Hi, those pockets made sure that the water that went into the grilles could flow up and over into the overflow. Without those pockets who knows what direction water would flow, in or out of the overflow.

Awesome cube and somewhere near the end of the thread I realized this cube was used on Ecotechs website...HAHA I was always thinking that tank looked nice and reading up on it was the icing on top. Very well done.

It varies, but usually some kind of nikon dslr and a 90mm macro lens.

Randy Holmes Farley wrote an article on continuous auto water changes a while back (water changes in general actually), and I was surprised nobody mentioned it in this thread. It answers pretty much all of the common questions people seem to have about them. Here it is:

Also, I was thinking that the calibration of your water change system may have been thrown off a bit by the constantly changing water levels in your fresh salt water reservoir. If you calibrate when the tank is full, you have a lot more head pressure than you do when the tank is empty. I think calibrating when the tank is half full might help. I may also be completely wrong, and you seem to have figured it out either way...

Yep, that's a great article by Randy.

As far as the head pressure, that shouldn't matter when using a peristaltic pump such as the LiterMeter.

BTW, this tank, stand, sump, pump and the original MH/T5 light is up for sale again here in Houston.

What type of wood was used to skin the stand. I saw where u said it was built by someone else but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on what type of wood was used. I'm currently building a 130 rimless and your design is pretty much what I'm going for.

Can't remember if it was birch or maple. One of those light woods! Had a light grain.

I put one in my reef and now end up with 3, all larger than the one I put in. They do reproduce a sexually.
Mine all look the same. In your case, I think they came in as hitch hiker since only the two yellow one look a like.
Did you remembered which two you put in?

So i know I got TWO cucumbers from Richard at TBS... i remember unbagging them.
Last night after my tank lights had gone off I turned on the room lights which illuminate the tank enough for me to see somewhat and i had FOUR cucumbers out and about. See pics of all 4 below. One even looks just like the rock and one is white!
I'd say those would have to be the biggest hitchhikers found in my tank yet.
