FishTankProjects 6' shallow reef build
I had the the glass (tank/sump) made as I didn't quite trust my self with that much water! I also had the metal stand welded. Aside from that the rest is all my handy work

Thank you for your reply. What's the dimension of your overflow box? Do you have a plan showing the overflow holes' placement/ dimension...glass thickness
I am gathering information to build a tank of nearly that size....going from thread to thread. |

Sure do. Holes are for 1" bulk heads
Main tank is 5/8. Not sure on overflow thickness but I believe 1/2. Will have to check later. I could have done the tank with 1/2 but I wanted to overkill it and build it like a tank

Time for a video update. The tank is a few days over one month old so I figured I would do another video update

Why did you not allow the overflow box to take the whole tank's width? Is there any special consideration you made to do what you did? If possible a picture would help. |

I did an end overflow because I plan on using the tank as a peninsula down the road. Do I figured build it once!

Wow! Awesome build. I love the look of the shallow/rimless and sleek/modern stand design.

Merci because you took your time to answer my questions. I'm far from Europe and the US. Living on a remote small Indian ocean island. I want to build a reef tank and don't even know if I can get someone to build it here as I have never heard someone doing it. So I need to gather the maximum information about a system that has worked. Yours has worked.Dimensions and materials used are important to me in order not to waste those rare to find materials ( If I could find them here).
Your tank looks nice. We don't have sellers of marine fish or corals here but we are surrounded by fringing reef with all the stuffs in it. So Merci again for all those beautiful pictures of fish and corals which inspires me a lot Thank You!!!!!! |

If this tank is still running, what are you using for water movement? Would you recommend it for someone running a tank with similar dimensions?

For water flow I have 2x mp40qd and a jebao cp40 gyre style pump. I honestly thing you could get away with just the gyre or mp40 in a pulse mode to rock the whole tank water. Back and forth. Unfortunately I made my overflow box a smidge to wide what forced me to keep the mp40s at 45% or less. Any higher any my tank turns into sand dunes with bare spots. If the pumps were higher up the tank this wouldn't have been an issue. Lesson learned ! I added the gyre since I can crank it up and it's near the surface under my overflow. Setup works great.

Today I upgraded my ATO container from 5g to 15g. I also got creative with a mixed pump and gravity feed system

Well done. What are you using for lighting? I've been out of the hobby for a few years so I can no longer identify lights by sight.
