my powder coated stand is rusting
Anyone know of a coating I can use without breaking down my tank? The coating is only 1.5 yrs old and I paid over $700 for the coating.

The tank is about 500gal. So I really don't want to take it down. They did sandblast it.

Linex or any truck bed liner coating is the only way to go!

Without having to break down the stand, I would buy a porduct called Hammerite paint. You can either get the spray type and mask it off, or buy the pint/quart can and brush it. It does not need a primer and will not allow rust through. I have lived at the coast for years worked with most paint products. It is far better than Rustoleum and will not rust even in salt spray as long as it does not get chipped. A few coats of this and you will be fine. Just follow the prep directions and do not prime.

POR15, wont have to worry about rust again.
after having chassis pieces and a grille guard powder coated from 2 different places both with the same outcome of it flaking and rusting after a year or 2, i will never use it again. |

I have heard wonderful things about the POR 15 as well. Hammerite is good stuff, but I have no experience with it around wet environments. Powdercoating is not cheap and still has its limitations. Bummer it is rusting on you. What does the shop say about its early failure?
Kona, I love that your truck bed is beat up but your tank stand has a $500 Line-X coating! The man has his priorities straight! cphelps Way to muddy up a thread for your own gain. |

This is the one reason I wouldn't go with powder coating, every stand I have ever seen with it all end up rusting due to a small chip or crack. The salt air just gets in and starts popping the coating right off.
