Custom ~ 100 Gallon Reef System

Good Day ReefCentral,

It has been sometime since I have had a reef tank, my last set up was approximately 5 years ago when I was living in the midwest and was a shallow 36 x 48 x18 inch 200 gallon system. I have owned three other tanks in my lifetime and have spent countless hours in this hobby both as a simple enthusiast in addition to taking part in a large scale aquaculture business. Life has gone on and since that time I have come to the east coast and found a slight amount of free time to re-engage the hobby and get my feet wet once again.

I started with a 70gallon cube find on craigslist, at a price that I could not pass up. The tank came with a ruby 30 sump, extra tall stand, and cube all in great condition.

After some much needed love, the stand was ready to accept my equipment list. Seeing that I am a resident physician, I wanted to make sure that this system was largely autonomous and required minimal maintenance for upkeep. Furthermore, I wanted to insure that if a problem arose I could handle at least the basics of it from my phone while at work. It is a minimalist and compact design in the sense of maintenance, ATO, dosing, minimal to no water changes, self cleaning skimmer.

Equipment

Filtration
- Trigger Systems 30 Ruby Sump
- Trigger System 10 gallon Top Off tank
- Tunze ATO
- Vertex 180 Skimmer
- Vertex Skimmer neck cleaner
- Avast Marine Skimmate Locker w/apex pressure switch
- Vertex 2.5L Media Reactor
- Remote deep Sand Bed included in the sump - removable

Apex/Controller
- Neptune Apex w/pH & Temp
- Ice Cap 150 Gyre/Apex interface
- Ice Cap Battery Back Up
- WXM Module
- Leak Detector Module

Dosing
- Neptune DOS
- Neptune DOS container w/sensors
- Apex AFS

Flow
- Gyre 150
- Reef Octopus 3500 DC Return Pump

Lighting
- Ecotech Marine Gen 3 Pro w/ tank bracket

The goal of the tank is to produce a largely natural looking reef with a healthy mixture of softies, LPS and SPS corals. The tank has been running since the beginning of November 2015 and it has been a fun adventure thus far. I will slowly be stocking the tank with corals over the next year or so and look forward to seeing what this will look like once it grows into its own.

The tank as it sits today:

Final Fish List:
- Red Sea Sailfin Tang
- Red Sea Purple Tang
- 2x Black Ocellaris
- Starry Night Blennie

Thank You! The equipment has definitely been worth the initial set up costs and the automation/insurance has definitely made life a bit easier
