What is this chamber for, foam maybe?

Directly to the left of return pump, there is this baffle I think it's called? 2 vertical acrylic wall one with a small square cut out..

Anyway I am thinking of putting filter foam in there, possibly even remove filter socks..

What yall think and what kind of foam would be best?

Keep in mind if you use foam you will need to clean it often.

I personally wouldn't use foam blocks one less thing to clean. I took mine out and I vac my sump every week to get rid of the crap. I also don't use socks either, lol.

The baffles don't do anything as they are just too short..

If you really wanted (I wouldn't) you could put foam but it would need to stick all the way up to the top of the water line or water/debris will just pass right over it..

I would just continue to use it as is..

This is good to know. My foam between the "baffles" just turns into a sink for nitrates and phosphates.
