Overflow to Sump
I am considering adding pipefish to my planned SH tank. Because of their propensity to get into overflow boxes and columns, I need a another method of getting water from the top of the tank down to the sump. Have been thinking of putting two 1/4 to 1/2 inch pipes near the surface connected to bulkheads, then covering the pipes with some cylindrical prefilter. No siphon. No food or pipefish in my sump. Thoughts or tips?

Appreciate the pic. My question is to the skimmer portion of the column, not the stand pipe. Don’t have a diagram. Considering 2 bulkhead fitted holes on the back of the talk, piped to the sump. The short pipes protruding into the talk would be covered with a cylindrical pre-filter. No animals going into the pipes/sump. Any thoughts or cautions?
