Installed into ATB mini air star. DIRECT REPLACEMENT!

The fitment is better than the ATB PPW, less slop, the pins are longer so no space for the impeller the chatter in and out.
I started it up a couple of times with minimal 1/2 second chatter.

On the other hand my PPW just had a pin broken off. From excessive chatter for 6 seconds and most of the time getting stuck after that.

More impressions later as I start and stop it a few more times in the next few weeks.

Marine Depot is labelling the Warner Marine pinwheel as an Aquamaxx for some reason. I'm not really sure of the reason for doing this, but it is indeed the same one.

love mine! much better then purple imo. had 2 of them both broke & had startup issues.
red demon pulls more air & water then ppw or stock. like putting a turbo charger on your skimmer

The latest from Warner Marine (notified us 5/4) is that the PW will not be arriving for another 3 weeks. Sorry for such the long delay here!

Do I need anything other than the rpw to replace my ppw. I have read posts about a different volute, but is it necessary? I will be using this on a Octo 160 Ex.

No all you need is the Red Pinwheel. Then you can be very happy!

Well I finally got the purple pinwheel off thanks everyone, it was cracked so that is why it wasn't working as it good. I put the Red Demon on it works great, back to filling the cup in two to three days,(I-Tech 200 sicce) I thought that the skimmer was over sized due to fact it wasn't pulling much skimmate out, I guess I was wrong I guess that explains the algae outbreak.

These are arriving to us today, and should be shipping back out today as well. If they do not get dropped off until later in the day, then they would ship tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jeremy

What is the recomended water height with the Red Devil PW? I have mine around 8" for the PPW in my ATB 840. The numbers "Mojo" posted seemed very similar to the PPW, is there a big difference and worth trying this out?

I can't really say on the ATB, as I haven't ran one on there before. From my recollection the recommended depth for an 840 is 6.5" though. I can tell you that on other skimmers such as the Extreme's, the Red Devil PPW is a pretty nice upgrade. The wet end on the ATB sicce pump is custom, where the others are pretty much stock. That alone changes quite a bit.

After a wait of around four weeks finally I received my Red Demon PW. The idea was to replace the original PW that came with my Sicce PSK 2500 pump in my SWC Xtreme 200 skimmer. The original PW was having start up problems. I was not surprised with this since this was the second pump with the problem. The original pump was returned and replaced for the same problem.

First I have to say that the Sicce pump is one of the worse pump I have ever had. Extremely difficult to open and unreliable at startup. The ventury piece came off and gave me problems to put it back in place.

After looking at a video in you tube on changing the PW I replaced the original with the Red Demon. It was easy to remove the old PW from the magnet.

When I tried to start the pump there was no way it started. When I removed the PW I noted that it was not spinning freely. There was one pin larger than the others! I was expecting a better quality for a piece of plastic that cost like if it was made of gold.. After sanding the pins all were at the same level. The second try was successful!

I can say that it works better producing more dirt. I still have a problem with start up. Lets see if after working for some time it works better.

Here are some photos of the change.

Opening the pump

Original PW

New PW

White arrow the longer pin!

Sand block

PW in place

Working good!!

luisgo,
Here is a tool I made to make it Super easy to remove and put back on the Volute from the Sicce PSK-2500 pump. I got the Idea from Jon Warner at Warner Marine Research.
Very easy to make out of 1.5" PVC T fitting.
I have done it two ways One just for the pump and the other is if you have a Venturi you need to clear.
#1 1.5" T and Volute

mark the T with a marker with the lines in the Volute. There will be three.
#2 Put the T on top of the Volute.

#4 Now cut the T at the

#5 you are done if you do not have a Venturi on it for protein skimmer.
#6 If you have a Venturi you will have to make a long hole so you can put it on with the Venturi. Just make sure your Venturi will be in the right spot

I hope this helps you out.
