I was just thinking the same type setup on mine. Rebuild because I hate having blues on most of the day .. 20k look So I second that color choice. So no one gets confused... IMO I think my sps's need wave lenghts from Uv (380nm - 510nm) For the best color and growth. IMO I feel the "whites" need only be ran 4-6hrs daily with mostly blues running 12-16hrs daily.. IMO the "white's rather it be 4500K,6500k,10,000k ect are just giving a little red, yellow (525-660nm) to complete the spectrum corals use. And "660nm" is bad IMO... If I were to design your same set up I would go no optics (honestly) or 90+ optics. I have {38}leds 14-16" over surface with 60* optics and I bet I could tape half them off and they still would cover.. I also am 3weeks in and cant ramp above 20% yet... Led are underestimated I think.. And I don't know much about the 4500K's but I feel it would be too yellow.. {4}6500k's and I bet I couldn't add more than {2} more without pee water look. But this is what I would do... 33-Royal Blue (save 2 or 3 for lunar) worth the $7 driver (ebay) 8-6500k white 14-10000k 8- 420nm violet 3-Pink 3-Cyan 3-UV Note Aquastyleonline does sell a moon lighting. Have to ask but it's bright IMO.. But def. worth the $12.. And take advantage of getting extra led's to play with colors later if needed.. Shipping is a little higher. FOUND THIS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE HELPFUL - How light is filtered through water.

Thanks! Waiting for a reply from Ray because you can't make custom light ratios on his order page for the kit

Mine are ordered. I went with the 24 kit with 16 rb and 6-6500 and 2-10k. Also, Ray was awesome, he sent me a 20 inch long heatsink for no extra charge! Great company to deal with! Will post pix of before (t-5) and after LED.

Hey bud, thanks for all of your help, I have built the c-channel heat sink and getting ready to order the LEDs.
I have a few more questions, how far about did you space your LEDs, mine a 2 1/4 on the channel and 4" between enter to center of each channel. Also, did you get any shadowing from the nbraces on your tank. Some people have been spreading the LEDs out to avoid the brace. Thanks again, Dan

thanks everyone, I placed my order a few minutes ago. Here is what I will have once they arrive. I got some from aquariumstyle and some from a few fellow reefers.
48 RB 12 White 10,000K 12 White 6,500K 10 White 4,500K 8 420nm Violet 3 Cyan 3 Meanwell LPF drivers. I know that I will have extra LEDS and am happy that I will be able to tweak the lights a little here and there with the extras. After I am all done then I will sell the remaining LEDs, but keep a few for spares. My goal is to run the 420nm violet on two separate strings, one will be moonlight and the other normal operation. The only thing I have to figure out now is what the best configuration is on my heat sink, does anyone have any threads that illustrate some good layouts for the tank. I may order a cheap ebay dimmable driver for the moonlights, but havent decided yet, Thanks for all the help, but bare with me we are just getting started, LOL Dan

SchnitzelReef,
Hey bud, I am more confused then ever lol. I spoke with Ray last night and he said that I needed to run 90 LEDs over my 90 gallon tank, he also threw in some pinks, reds, and another cyan and said that was the proper mix of colors for a full spectrum. Now I have to add to my heatsink and it will cause the LEDS to be closer than before.. Any thoughts? Thanks,

I'm adding more LEDs over my tank for a better spread. What do you guys think of these colours?
8 v Actinic 6 x Cyan 24 x RB 11 x 4500K 5 x 6500K 6 x 10,000K I am thinking of taking out all the 10K and some of the 4500K and replace them with 6500K what do you guys think? |

Hey I have a question about layout pattern. Here is my bulb color mix that i'm going with: 24 royal blue, 6-6500k, 4-1000k, 2-4500k from Ray at Aquastyle. My tank is a 54 corner, Schnitzel thanks for the help thus far, and i'm going to gut out my light fixture that I have that measures roughly 21"x13". I want to go with Schintzel's recomendation and use the C-channel for the frame work and spread the lights evenly and do 6 rows of 6 lights. any suggestions on the layout pattern

Hi all,
I am in the processes of making my own 90LED DIY for my 90Gal Tank. I know 90 LEDs are way too much but they will be on timers so that they don’t work together. Please take a look at my scheme and tell me if it looks good. I am using all kind of colors during the day so that when the timers go on and off they will “simulate” the day and night (hopefully..:-)) I am open to suggestions, and remember… I am not a professional on LEDs. I am just trying to make a better place for my corals |

Got mine wired last night. I went with an even spread of blues and put one 10k in the middle of each side. My 6-6500 are evenly placed in between the blues on the outer strips. I plan on not running opticson the 10k for an even spread throughout the tank. What do you think? I will post a picture of the layout shortly

My setup is this, on a 20" long heatsink by 8 inches wide. Blue=RB, Grey=10k, Yellow=6.5k. What do you guys think? I will not be running optics on the 10k, or the outside RB's (3 eash side), because the tank is 30" wide. Thanks
oops- the one RB on the lower right corner shoulld be 6.5 (yellow)= Typo |

Hey Nick,
You know i'm not an expert but do you think having the RB's in solid lines like that will give you that line in the sand of distinct color changes from blue to white instead of a even mix of the colors so as to look like one color or will not running the optics on the 10000K's compensate for that you think? |

I thought I'd ask so I might have a different way to think about setting mine up. I know alot a folks talk about having that effect when people do it that way. Can you take the optics off after you put them on without messing anything up?
