2 pumps to reach the required circulation?

Hi all.
Have decided, after only having had a small marine aquarium, to get a bigger aquarium.
My question may seem silly but I just thought I'd ask. To create the required water movement per hour can I use 2 pumps.
For example to create 2000 LPH could I use 2 x 1000 LPH pumps?
I currently have a 1600 LPH pump and would use this pump with one of similar size at opposite ends of a 3-4 ft tank.

Is this acceptable?

Thanks

Are you talking about turn over from the sump to dt or water movement in the dt? If water movement you can use powerheads to the movement.

actually using two return pumps into to separate returns is a good idea. If one goes out, you still got something going.

There is no limit to the amount of power heads or flow that you can have in the display tank.

If you're talking about in the tank, just for water flow, I would say the more the merrier! It allows you to put current in more areas and to eliminate more dead-spots. I have two in my 36 gallon bowfront. I would have a third if I could fit it in.
