Makes no sense tbh. Power of the brand name. Lots of other sites selling the same for $200+ cheaper

Same thing for the bandit that went for $1599 the other day.

I think also there is the frenzy mentality of auctions/live sales, etc.

I don’t do auctions for *anything*, ever. Used to participate in art auctions (MANY yrs ago) - toxic atmosphere in general + I’m too competitive by nature.

W SW fish in particular, I’d much prefer to go through local hobbyist, *maybe* one ‘trusted’ lfs. I was less picky w my former Discus setups, but, imo, FW setups are easier to tear down and re-start. (QT always, oc)

The Hawaiian Ban is causing havoc! Look at the Chevron Tangs, gone are the cute 2" and all that can be found are the 3" at $300 +, unless you want Xmas Island. By the way that is going there will be no more Hawaiian fish to be had!

How soon does it take for fish to develop HLLE? I am under the impression that this is a chronic problem that developed over months.
I am not sure why newly caught fish develop HLLE like this one at DD?
Anybody know?

I hadn't heard that the Hawaiian bill was made law. That might explain that DD Tinkeri that sold for ~$800. Good thing I am more interested in Red Sea fish. They are going to be cheaper in comparison

Minh just like the BF I posted in #2630, DD is better than that to sell a fish that is not 100% healthy. The BF you posted is from the Maldives, which as most know have some of the best collection practices anywhere. The rules in place are the size of the net which makes smaller fish very difficult to collect. I am still not sure how they are catching a Flame Wrasse with a net that has 2" mesh?

If you're considering a blueface I would call and ask about this fish. It seems very weird for one that small to have hlle... and I'm not sure I've ever seen an angel with that affliction before. HLLE does seem to take some time to develop and takes even longer for it to recover, if it ever does. My scopas tang developed a small amount of HLLE and it took about two years for it to almost entirely go away. LOTS of nori!

I am not interested in this fish. Newly caught fish should not have HLLE.
There were several offer for sale recently, include a Coral Beauty yesterday with HLLE.
I was just wonder why they have fish with HLLE. The last fish I had with HLLE was back in the 1980's.

That is really strange. I agree, they should not be listed... or at the very least it should be explicitly pointed out and the price reduced.

They list them as {Blemished}, I guess we just always expect DD to be perfect.

Perfect may not be the right word, but I'm sure people expect more when you charge a large premium.

If they’re using copper it can do this to some angels and tangs. I’ve had purple tangs start to develope HLLE within 2 weeks being in copper. But after treatment the usually get healed in a month or so of vitamin infused nori.
But yes DD should not be selling something like that

I just got a pair of Latz clowns in. One came in DOA. They only sell these as pairs and a single is pretty useless to me. They said they call the DD facility and see if they had anymore. Half credit doesn’t help so hopefully they come though for me. Really surprised it died. They shipped each fish in probably 3/4 a gallon of water. I was shocked at the size of the box for 2 one inch fish

Anytime you move a fish there is always that chance of something bad happening, sorry for your loss. Water quantity is never an issue with DD, try receiving a 6" Blueface angel, my receiving area guys where impressed.

They do use copper as part of their QT... unless the fish has sensitivity to it.

Same experience with copper and HLLE, the blue face appeared to have hole in the head that DD had.

So is there a reliable source or the go-to place now for online ordering of fish? Over the next two months I'll be adding at least one tang of some sort to fit in a 210 gallon, regal, flame, and a host of smaller fish like various damsels and some royal gramma's. I just assumed LA/DD would be the go-to.

My local PetClub believe it or not has a awesome set up for saltwater fish so the smaller may be purchased there. They don't handle larger fish though so tangs or larger angels I'll have to go elsewhere.
