Thank you!
Update time. Operation move the sump to the basement has taken a few steps forward. With the help of a friend (Gary T. if you know him) I started to get the plumbing for the sink and drain in the basement figured out. Should be finished this weekend, which will allow me to move the sump to the basement sooner rather than later: |

Well, today was finally the day.
The plan from the start of the build process (which was about a year ago now if you count planning), was to move the sump to the basement. There was no sink down there, no water, and no drain. Problem solved (see above). Today, with the help of a local reefer who graciously volunteered his time, we ran the hot and cold water and plumbed in the drain for the sink. To make this happen, I had to (in no particular order): -Plumb the drains and the returns -Drill hole through my brand new bamboo floors that I damn near killed myself installing -rerun the drain and return plumbing that was previous set up -Move all of the sump, equipment, Apex stuff etc. downstairs -Set up the RO/DI -Turn everything on and hope for the best. Aside from a few small hiccups (and a few too many trips to Lowe's, as always is the case when I am going a project), everything went swimmingly. I am currently sitting in the living room, where it is so quiet it feels like something is wrong. Love the skimmer, but damn that thing is loud. At some point I am going to have to upgrade the return pump (something like a Jebao 15000) as the DCS 9000 is maxed out now. I also plan on plumbing in a frag tank and a remote fuge. But for now, shes moved: Water lines: Drains and returns: Holes in my new floors for plumbing (as well as the Aquabus for the leak detector and ethernet for the Apex): I just rotated the drain plumbing and connected with unions so I didn't have to replumb from the overflow: Some cleaning up needs to take place under here, but what to do with all that space? And the finished product: I have some cleaning up to do. I need to put the dosing pump on a shelve, and a few other little things. But buy and large, this is how she is going to look. So glad to have this piece finished! |

i like the open industrial look of nothing in the stand.

Beautiful tank. Amazing light setup. I'm envious of the space and the fish room!

Awesome. What camera did u use for pic? It actually looks really cool with stand covers.. In fact I have a hunch it makes the room look bigger spacious or more open by not enclosing stand. I would though , if it were my home, remove everything in stand lol. Maybe it's ocd. I would keep it empty. U have a dream system with out a sump under dt!

I agreed. Looks great.
The only thing that I would look into is a way to enclose and hide your drain / return plumbing upstairs. Then a minimalist look will be completed. Awesome job, Terry & Gary!

Heck it's nice just to have the sump on a stand and out in the open, let alone isolated. Very jealous!

I love this hobby. Geek out, go crazy, or do almost nothing. Either way can work. Tom 's (the reef shoppe ) running tap water and plane Jane skimmer . You' ve bought all the toys Santa forgot to put under my tree. Congrats, i'd love to hear sales pitch that sold this project to the wife.

Looks like it's floating. I bet it's something to behold in person. Very unique.

you can get corrugated black drain pipe to hide your plumbing and wiring. I seen over with the lawn pipe. Under 20 bucks.
Tank looks AWESOME Terry

I think i would just put a panel on the inside of the stand at the end with the piping. the rest of the stand would still be open but the pipes would be blocked.

I was laying in bed thinking about the stand last night. I think I am going to frame it out in some 3-4" trim (either white, or light grey like the walls), with "walls" between each section, with the center and right section wide open and the left section closed with a door for the electronics etc. That way, you will never see the plumbing unless you walk around the back of the tank, and I have a place to keep things.
