Shell Rot ID
Hello all,
I recently got back into keeping stomatopods and received an O. Scyllarus a month ago. I believe it is a female, approximately 4 inches. I noticed some damage after I got her home. Both dactyl tips are broken off with the heel still intact, part of the telson is damaged, and there is an indentation on the back of her (see pick). I know what shell rot looks like underneath but I have no experience spotting it from the surface. I’ve already taken action assuming it is shell rot to accelerate molting (water changes, dim lighting, increased feeding, not dosing with iodine). Can anyone confirm if this is shell rot? I’d appreciate it. |

There is a lot of physical damage and some of the edges are infected, but this isn't too bad. I suspect that she will recover - the sooner she molts the better.

Thank you Dr. Caldwell. Anything else I can do or is this a hands off/let nature take its course kind of situation?

You might try adding a supplement such as Selcon to the diet although providing a diverse diet is probably just as good.
