I've been contemplating a 12' long tank, but this just blows it away!! Can't wait to see it come together.

Great tank. I'm definitely following this thread. I think that tank is bigger than those two cars in the first picture. Can't wait for more pictures

Earlier, a number of mobile hydraulic lifts were air lifted into the basement by the crane so that there was something on the other side of the window to catch the tank. Also the custom stand was prepared for the ultimate landing.

While all the tank adjustments were going on to mount the unit on the stand the crane was used to move the new backup generator that is dedicated to the aquaria and its supporting systems. It is 17,000 watts plumbed into the natural gas line to ensure that 3 seconds is all the down time the whole system will ever encounter. It tests itself once a week and confirms by email that all systems are healthy.
After the generator was placed on its pad on the side of the house we moved the three Mars systems into the basement for deployment into the fish room. Finally...well sort of....
Short side Long side Inside L I know the depth of field is wrong but I think its relevant as the plans call for total viewing on both sides as well as from the two floors above. Coming to the end of a very long day.....5 months ago! Peter Last edited by nineball; 03/10/2010 at 08:25 PM. Reason: I forgot.. |

I have to say this is probably the coolest thread I have seen. I am deffinitely envious. I would love to have the capital needed to build a tank that big. I will deffinitely be around for the ENTIRE build.

Thanks Jeff, this is a long long journey. By the way I did source 1000 gal of RO water for my live rock on Friday. I have two four hundred gal tanks to hold the rocks till I can bring them into the tank. Although the consensus seemed to be that it was not necessary I decided to add a skimmer during the holding period.....as I assume it can do no harm.
Thanks again for your support. Peter p.s. There's a tour at the end of this for you. |
