Rash From Reef Tank?

My girlfriend keeps getting these small bumpy rashes on the side of her forearm whenever she puts her arm in the tank to move stuff around. What could be causing this? It does not get red at all and goes away within a few hours.

hmm...not too sure, but i do know they make gloves that go all the way up. that may help! they also help prevent allergic reactions. http://www.aquabuys.com/page/aqb/PROD/esu_gloves

I agree. Get some gloves that cover the entire arm that will be in the water.

Some people react to salt water by breaking out in a rash, or she could be contacting something on the rock, or a coral. Euphyllia corals (hammer, frogspawn etc.) give me horrible, itchy, bumpy rashes that last for days. I third the glove suggestion -- Coralife makes shoulder-length gloves that are too thick for fine work like fragging coral but great for water changes or working with rock. You can get thinner shoulder-length exam gloves used in large animal vet work at farm supply stores or a vet's office (even small animal vets can order them). They're pretty much single use, but they don't cost much.

is she possibly rubbing her arm on the plastic edge of the tank and causing it?
