Aiptasia?

Looking for a second opinion.

This is on a new rock I just put in the tank last Thu to add some more cave space. Best to just pull the rock and qt it? Or go get a peppermint shrimp?

Aiptasia. Pull the rock and drop some hydrogen peroxide directl7 on it, then RINSE THE ROCK and isolate it until the bubbles stop.

Should I keep it in some extra saltwater after rinse to prevent additional die off?

Yes....make sure you get rid of all the aiptasia before you put it back in tour tank. If it's not 100% dead, it can rejuvenate itself

So this may be exactly the case. I waited till it was done bubbling from H2O2 and then put it back into my tank, but I'm still seeing 2 of them. I assume they wouldn't reopen/extend tentacles if they were dead?

It was hard to tell where they were when I pulled the rock out, they blend in really well out of water to the live rock. I'm going to try again and may just leave it in an 5 gallon bucket of saltwater till I'm sure they're dead.

Also going to pick up a peppermint shrimp just for extra caution. Maybe I can get my LFS to donate me one since they sold me the aiptasia laced rock...

You may not have gotten the h2o2 to it. Try again and hit it good.

I had/have a small outbreak of Aiptasia in my 90 gallon reef tank. I bought 5 Peppermint Shrimp from AlageBarn and they took care of the Aiptasia so far.
I would trun off the flow and darken the tank before releasing them, the Peppermint Shrimp don't do so great in fast flow and can get blown around pretty easily.
I kept the Peppermint Shrimp in an acclimation container in the DT for a few days to make sure they survived. The shrimp like to hide, and aren't all that big so their had to find once in the tank.

If getting shrimp note young ones may be more apt to go for them; and likewise get several, in hopes ONE has a taste for them.

The ones from AlagaeBarn were pretty small. That's why I wanted to make sure they survived for a few days before I turned them loose! I really only see them now after the lights go out using a red light.......

Definitely. Hit it with some hydrogen peroxide and cover it with glue if it’s in a convenient spot.

Thanks, everyone. Good tip on multiple shrimp, I didn't realize they can be pretty small.

I dont have any shrimp predators in the tank, and my other 2 are a cleaner and a fire shrimp. I would think there's enough hiding space a couple peps would be fine.

Back to aiptasia, is there an easy way to highlight them on the rock out of water? Or a way to mark them before I pull it out again?

I've got some superglue gel I can use too on this go around, but it was really hard to see them.

I haven't used superglue, I have tried injecting the Apitasia with lemon juice and then covering the area with epoxy. Mixed results trying this method.......

So I think I'm going to just pull the rock and let it sit for a few weeks. Let the aiptasia die, then I'll put it in my qt tank to recycle and make sure their dead before putting back in dt.
