50 PPM tds in NYC?

I just bought a HM Com-100 TDS meter. I was curious and decided to check out the TDS of my tap water before I buy a RO/DI unit.
I have been using the DI tap water filter from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals only.

The TDS reading from the TAP was at 53 PPM using the 442 scale. and it was .4 PPM after the Tap water filter. Am i using the right scale? Does that sound right for NYC?

probably right.

Best tasting water without supplemental filtration.

There's a reason NYC bagels are the best tasting bar none. It's the water.......

Just across the river, in Bergan County, NJ, the water company filters the water with Ozone, carbon, chlorine, chloramin, copper (for preservative) and various other chemicals. TDS reading: about 150 ppm. Go on line and get a water quality report from your water company. You'll probably be pleasently surprised at how little crap the NYC water company puts into their water and how great it taste.

Yeah NYC has a very good water treatment system. It's funny they start with some just god awful source water, and deliver some of the best city water in the US. Next time you pay your water bill, smile, it's worth it Oh and it'll get better in a few years to, they're adding a UV phase to ALL the source water, should be neat.

NYC has some of the best water, so I've heard. Our water out of tap is around 40 ppm, so were aren't half bad either, which is suprising considering agriculture, etc.

I am not sure what he tested, if it was TDS or the water hardness.

Recommended TDS for coffee is around 120-130 ppm or mg/liter (Total Dissolved Solids) - these are solids smaller than a size of 2 microns.

Recommended water hardness for espresso is around 70-80 mg per liter.

The water in NYC are way below these values.

I don't understand why they continue to roast everything to Full City. It all tastes the same at that point, oily and burnt.

I only bought two things at Starbucks, Bagels and a newspaper. My coworker was a coffee snob.
