welcome to the neighborhood...
closest LFS we have here is Oak Park Natural Pets & Fish on Harlem & Madison...
Scott is a nice guy...mostly has fish and inverts... somewhat limited on corals but if you ask him for something, he'll be happy to try and get it for you...
other than that, we have the new Ocean Design on Addison, Coral Reef on Lawrence and if you don't mind taking a quick ride into Wicker Park, there's New Fish on Milwaukee...

HTH

Welcome!

I won't go back in to OP Natural.... Tried twice. Just don't at all like the owner or how he does business.

Craig is spot on with the others. I haven't made it yet to New Fish....

welcome to the area, im just north of you in elmwood park and will third what Craig said, I have not been to oak park natural pet and fish so no opinion there. Ocean design is just ramping up after moving and i think it will turn out to be a great store, coral reef usually has great fish prices but you better be ready with a qt. New fish is also a newer store that is a little further for you but its great, the guys in there are pretty cool and not pushy at all.

Oak Park Natural pet and food is a good store, scott has hired help and is much better at customer service and has the lowest prices within 50mile radius.

Ocean design: Tony is a v ery nice guy,but all livestock is WAY overpriced.

Coral reef is a nice pplace to visit.

New Fish: Also a nice place to visit, good SPS,slightly higher prices than usual.

I echo the need for more coral at Natural Pet. The fish selection does look nice, varied, and healthy more often than not. I have not bought fish from there, though, but that is because I don't want to add more to my tank. I did get some harlequin shrimp there, and they are doing great. He has the best prices on CC stars that I have found.

Scott has the lowest prices? Not the two times I was in there. If you like being ignored and paying too much guess it's ok.

OD is much more reasonable at the new location.

Yeah, just cause u don't personally like him doesn't mean anything:
Here's a quick top of my head price comparison:

Scott: Blue hippo $64.99+20% discount-------Queen angel $129.99+20% discount

Ocean Design: Blue hippo $119.99------Queen angel $229.99

Not lowest on everything, but on CC stars which I need every couple of weeks and my harlequins were priced slightly better than at other places. He has cut me some deals when the stars were small. Much of the coral is overpriced, and there have been fish (barracuda) available which should not. As far as being ignored he has always acknowledged me within a reasonable time frame, but that is my experience. I will have to give OD another try as I wasn't impressed , but not turned off when I went a couple of weeks ago.

New Fish is the best around for Frags and QTd healthy fish and if you are in there often they have no problem hooking you up on the price. Old Town Aquarium is the best around for nice big colonies and very rare fish ($$$$$$$$$$$$$ though).
