Nice
I've never had one that size. I hear the smaller clams can be more sensitive due to a thinner mantle but I have never, personally, asked one. Best of luck to you both! |

Looking good! My derasas that I have are doing great. I did lose the two maxima' I tried. I didn't have strong lights when I tried them. Good luck with the new clam!

Get it up high and as close to the lights as possible. New shell growth or death are your next signs - I know that this sucks, but clams are not good at sharing their emotions or feelings.
These need as much light as they can get and more than most people have to offer. I don't think that the phyto will help, but it won't hurt anything if you want to add it. James Fatherree has stated many times that clams can get all that they need from light and N and P in the water. He has a great book if you want to pick it up. |

Thanks for the reply jda..I was actually starting to worry about it because one of the mantle isn't opening up all the way other then that it seems happy.. well I mean reacting good to light switch mouth seems good plus I don't see any pyramids on it..
I have a giant bta that is stopping me from placing to the top .. I do have one spot real close to it but I suppose I can build it up with some rock work what you think? So you believe that raising to the top is the key cause I'm all in if you are..I really really want it to make it |

Crocea and Maxima need all the light that they can get. I would get it up there as soon as it secures to a rock that you can mount up there.

Only problem is that it's not directly beneath the light is that a problem I suppose I could keep moving it around if I have to

That 'nem doesn't need all that light... get it out of there and down lower.

I know you're right my only concern is that it will decide to move up anyways.. Since the first day I got it it was so huge I honestly just placed dead smack in the middle but I would love to move the NEM lower but just need to plan it out for maybe Sunday...
As for the clam right now you think he's safe |

It's not gaping so that's always a good sign. What do you think your par is where you have positioned it. And what are you water parameters? I've never bought a small clam because of hearing survival rates and requiring more than filter feeding.

Yea no par meter here but it doesn't like where it's at.. It didn't go diving thank God but definitely not happy.. My parameters are as follow
Salinity 1.026, temp 76,nitrares?, phosphates ?.. but I do keep everything stable and get my water tested at the lfs been doing it like this for 6 years no problem. So I'm determined to move the NEM down to the bottom praying the Rock isn't too big but ready to clear out the middle for the clam and my sticks...btw my one and only acro that's is doing wonderful went diving today.. But that's what I get for sticking my hands in the tank |

In my clam experience again not with smaller clams. They are filter feeders you actually need nitrates and phosphates, I also like having some nitrates and phosphates with my sps. So I always strive for around 2.5-5 nitrate and 0.03 phosphate.

OK so what a night decided to move the rockwork last night and oh boy.. The clam went diving twice, tank all cloudy , what a mess. So yea plenty of nitrates and phosphate's now..
I'll keep you guys updated |

So what you think jda @ fellow reefers.. Am I glad my tank n didn't crash i kinda sensed it last night before bed. The NEM is huge and is expanding to the top, let's hope that it stays put.. Getting close to the clam and acro.. Maybe more rock?.. Even had to readjust the Power heads what a disaster..I don't know if I'm happy with it unless some of you can convince me.
