I am disappointed but I think it’s what I have to get used to. While spot feeding some
LPS, I accidentally bumped Julian’s feeder into an SPS frag. It was not glued to the rock yet. So I wanted to glue it today and in the process managed to move the rock while was glued. Luckily I was able to catch the 3 pieces of rock.Damage could have been worse. But in the process of trying to get the scape back to its original form, I dropped a small rock onto my Galaxea. Not sure if it’s OK. Will have to wait and watch. Annoyed at this point and having played with the rock work for 30mins, I gave up and removed the rock work.

This is the new aqua scape. Really ****ed off but I’ll get used to this I guess. Damage to the scape, Galaxea damage unknown, stressed out fish because of the chaos. BOTTOM LINE lesson: Glue is not enough, add acrylic rods also. FML could have been worse!!!

Better to find out now the rocks were unstable. I like the new scape.

Entire scape looks delicate lol. My rule of thumb is three points of contact for each rock being held up. That way it’s secure and not easy to tip over. Epoxy is also a lot stronger than glue and id use that way over it. I only use glue for tiny frags

Epoxy doesn't work that well either. After a while the epoxy wears out its holding strength.

Fiberglass or acrylic rods are the only safe way.

With that said, I simply stack my rock and make sure it cannot topple after it's stacked. Have yet to have one topple in the 3 years I've had my tank setup.

I know that you all don’t see the whole picture. I agree that rods is the way to go.... This scape is made of 8 big rocks with 4 point of contact. Except for that one which toppled

... now 7 rocks!!! Duh moment!!!

Closer look at the rock did reveal that I did a poor job using the glue.

This scape isn’t a guess work guys. With that said it’s a lesson learnt and I wanted to share with y’all.

Good to see all the comments. I’ll take it as constructive criticism!!!

I heard good things about the aquamaxx reef epoxy so I gave that a try and so far I'm happy with it. One of the biggest sticking points for me was if you didn't like the look of your scape you could just heat the piece of "epoxy" back up and try again.

Reason I bring it up is if you wanted you could still use it on your current scape to make it more stable. It doesn't effect the skimmer and if you can't get it the way you want the first time reheat and try again.

If you are going to construct these kinds of inherently unstable structures (and they become more unstable as the frags grow) then either use better adhesives, zip ties or acrylic rods. Personally I only use the D&D epoxy. It's tougher to work with initially, and takes a while to set, but it's far stickier and holds stuff together for years.
