Algae during cycling good/bad?
So my tanks a couple of weeks into a cycle and the glass, rock and sand bed has started going brown (looks way worse in person than it does in the photo!). Is this a good sign or a bad sign? I’ve read the tank has to go through a couple of algae blooms but didn’t expect any so soon?

That's diatoms which is not actually algae. It's a completely normal thing to have at this stage. In fact, I've never cycled a tank where I didn't have a diatom bloom. It should go away on it's own.

yep.. just one of the new tank "ugly stages"..
Diatoms.. then green hair/film algae then even some cyano.. usually in that order.. All is totally normal and will go away in time (could be a few weeks or longer) provided you keep up with proper tank maintenance..
