Salifert Magnesium test expiration date

I have a test that is more than half full but the box is showing an expiration date of 5/2013...what happens if i keep using it after May?.I assume the test results may become unreliable?..what expires actually?...there are 3 different solutions being added...i just hate throwing it away when there so much left.

Anyone ever used any of theses tests kits past the expiration date?

I know some people who used them past the expiration date but I wouldn't recommend it at all.

If the colorchange is sharp then just use it.

However, just be sure you had the caps tightened properly after each use, in particular of the Mg-3.
Otherwise it could, because of evaporation, give a lower result than actual.

On April 30th at midnight all the chemicals in the Salifert box will just become inert and it won't work any more!

I use Salifert and my last mag test kit was giving me readings of 1300-1450 all the time and it wasn't expired. My new kit gives me readings of 1700-1800 and I haven't dosed mag into either of my 2 systems. It makes me leery about all test kits we use.

Thanks...I guess I will continue using it until i see discrepancy....my tank is always between the 1400 to 1500 range so I guess I will know...at least is not as crucial as alk for example
