Help! White Stars
I just bought this Zoa colony. When I got home, i noticed it had white stars....is this OK? Can I pick them off? It is in my QT for now. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

I've never seen them destroy a polyp, but they do lodge themselves in the opening of closed polyps, potentially keeping them from opening up and thus starving to death.
They do not seem to reproduce in captivity and you should see them disappear eventually. |

Can I pick them off with tweezers? or leave them alone. I just don't want them to spread. Is it safe to put it in my main tank?

Foraminiferans, they are harmless and will die soon in most peoples tanks. They eat suspended detritus and filter feed.
They come in many shapes and sizes. Pluck them off or wait for them to move if you are worried.

Thanks for all the help on this issue. I picked them all off couple of days ago and I haven't seen any return. In a couple of days I will put in my display tank.
Thanks again for all the help. |
