Lighting Suggestion

I have been helping my dentist get his 210 reef tank in order and want to change his lighting. He currently has a current USA fixture with three 250de and 8 36" T5s for attinics. The tank does not have a canopy.

I am looking for the following in the fixture:

Must be visually pleasing
Be capable to keep all types of coral.
Able to penetrate the deep tank.

Jim

You can make some of the DIY led fixtures really visually appealing if you take your time. You can shrink wrap all the wiring and get a hanging kit. I think being able to see the white and blue leds would intrigue me in a dentists office. It adds another cool factor to the tank from a non reefers perspective. They most certainly will replace a mh fixture and you.can achieve any color temp you want.

If cash is not an issue Go with a ATI or Tek Elite fixture 10 or 12 bulbs.. But LEDS will also do the job..

This might work also if still on sale

I am considering ordering three Radions but me personally am not 100% sold on LED's yet. I know he is interested in LED's and money is not an issue. The bottom line is the tank must look nice and easy to maintain.

Same here on the LEDs.. Radions will sure make the tank look High Tech Just not sure how many you will need..

Well based on what he keeps in the tank (LPS, Zoanthids, some SPS) Eco tech said 3 would be sufficient. If however the tank was sps dominated they suggested 4. I think we will end up going the radion route.

Why ditching MH? I have heard good things about the new Hamilton MH/T5/LED combo, the Cebu (is that the name?).

The fixture is in kinda bad shape. Not ditching the MH but more so looking to modernize the look.

Hey Jim, send Rick a PM (firebretha)... he'll hook you up. I would definitely go DIY though and probably the Pheonix, you'll get more LED's for the money and it'll look awesome. He even has enclosures now if you like the enclosed look. I'm very happy with my fixture.
