Hi Rodger
Just a couple of questions when my skimmer starts up makes a hell of a noise, but than 100% silent. It’s like a grinding noise is that normal. Other question is in the manual it says it comes out for cleaning. The top black plate the one the cup sits on I tried to get it out but was worried I would break it so left it in but made it hard to clean the inside body
Thanks Adrian

It is normal as long as the noise is only on start up, this is the needles which are flexible hitting the cover. The black plate is tricky to remove and I would only remove it when absolutely necessary. Push down on one side to tip it down and dislodge it, once you have it turned nearly 90 degrees, you can pull it out, installation is the opposite.
