Both my nems dropped into the sand today

So i noticed at feeding time today that both of my nems have dropped from their perches and are now in the sans, one of them upside down.

Ph is 8.2, other stats are normal

They have been in this tank about a month, they moved to the bottom of their tock after being added. Yesterday i dimmed the lights 10% in the hopes that they would come out, but today i fins this. Any suggestions?

Hi! How is the nems foot? Is it damaged? Did you try and get it attached again to a rock?

I dont have a test for dissolved oxygen. But have the skimmer and drain lines pulling bubbles constantly

One on sand in the back. The other still in the pot.

The one in the pot feels like it is pretty well attached. Moved the one in the sand over to a new spot.

Did not see any damage to the foot. Still sticky and carrying a bit of sand around

My rbta “fell” from the very top of my rocks (150gT) and into a sort of wedge between a cluster of palyzoanthids (his fault, he had recently dislodged their rock with his foot) and the tank glass.

I thought he would die - his tentacles looked like strands of hair, they were so thin.

BC I have a tall, and bc he was wedged against already unhappy palys, I was worried trying to ‘dig’ him out would do more harm than good.

Hubs talked me into giving the nem 8 hrs b4 I tried extreme measures. He did manage to pull himself out (also, he was upright, which helped) but he was pretty thinned out and pitiful, so I fed him a nice chunk of shrimp once he actually semi-attached to a rock.

I think the feeding helped a lot, but it still took a good 48hrs 4 him to recover. I try not to ‘handle’ my nem at all, it I can help it. A few years ago I accidentally tore the foot of a lta, and that proved fatal.

His maroon clown was frantic until after I fed him, then she calmed down.

The one that i moved is now ew-attached and walking around. The other one is still in hiding. Thawing out some shrimp now to feed em.

Check your alkalinity, just in case. Good range for corals is 7.9 to 9.0. I haven't had anemones for quite a while, but I would check water quality.

Yeah, I'd agree with Sk8r. I've kept BTAs for a few years now and haven't seen that behavior. Are you using a rodi, a refractometer and topping off deligently?

My ph is around 8.2 currently

Salinity is 1.025 when checked last week.

Top off is from a 5 stage ro/di. Output is measuring 2ppm

The tank looks new. There seem to be a lot of flow for a BTA (displaced sand). I would concentrate on provide it with good condition with water change. Don't feed anemones unless they are healthy, otherwise feeding does more harm than good.
Your anemone should only get tiniest of food since they are so small, pea size food, smashed to help them digest. DON'T FEED UNTIL THEY ATTACHED AND OPEN WELL, NOT DEFLATED.

My first thought too was how old is tank, looks pretty new, might not be stable enough yet, and what lights and what was it under before?

This tank is about 5 months old. Set up with old water sand and rock from my previous tank. Sand is displaced because i have 2 large engineer gobies in there too.

Nems moved from old tank to new about a month ago

Checked parameters last night. All normal. Salinity 1.027, ph 8.2, nitrite undetectable, nitrite 20-30

Making some more water to do a 20% change

I think the one in the pot got buried in the sand. I dug the sand out but cant find it.

Found the other one laying in the sand at the front of the tank this morning when the lights came on

Hmmmm.....can you get a better pic, kind of hard to tell what that is....? Usually if you turn off the flow in your tank and hold the nem in place for a few it attaches right away if is healthy. I have never had a healthy nem unattach from a rock on his own.
