They look like green star polyps. They grow and spread relatively quickly. A good first coral. They encrust over your live rock so they make a good filler for blank spots in your tank.

+1 to Ryan. I love these, they look great when they encrust a large area. Kinda looks like grass. I've thought about putting a little flag in the middle of mine when it gets bigger just to make it look like a golf course green, lol.

They should be fine on their own as long as they have sufficient flow and light. They will pretty much tolerate any placement though. You can feed them some mysis or brine on occasion if you want. If theyre healthy youll know by looking at them and by how fast they spread.
