Protein skimmer for Nuvo 20

Hey guys I’ve only been into the hobby for year now and I started out with a 75 gallon tank. Well with work and life getting in the way I had to take that tank down. With that being said I bought a Nuvo 20 so again I’m new to the nano part as well lol. My tank has been up and running for 6 months or so and my starting to buy more things for the tank. Right now I’m looking for a good quality protein skimmer that will fit in the back chamber of my Nuvo 20, I bought a Hydor Slim Skim but it does not fit so I’m now back to square one.

I believe the new model is called the innovative marine nuvo skim. It wasnt available when I set mine up, so I went with an eshopps nano. It fits in the second chamber but it's a close fit

I’ve read and heard bad to mixed reviews on that skimmer. If I’m going to spend $140 a nano skimmer it better one of the best lol

I had the original innovative marine nano skimmer and its garbage. I also tried the eshops nano. Its better but not by much. Unless you don't care about a giant skimmer sticking out the top of you tank go with the aquamaxx. But i like the aqua excel

Go on Marine Depot an watch the comparison video on the new IM skimmer vs the old. I agree the old one way over skimmed and produced too much water in its waste. But the new one has been revamped and seems to work really well.

I have the new one on order and it should be here tomorrow. I’ll be setting my tank up this weekend but I’ll keep everyone posted on how it works when I get it going

I had the innovative Marine ghost skimmer on my nuvo 20 it works great never had an issue with it it takes a couple of weeks for it to stop producing microbubbles in the tank but other than that I started skimming right off the bat I never stopped

Keep me posted. I have the original IM Ghost Skimmer which isnt all that great.... It skims wayyyyy to wet. I was considering doing with the new Nuvo Skim skimmer after watching the video about it.

Would like to hear what you think.

No problem. Like I said, my tank will be here Friday so it will be a little bit before it’s actually able to be put to the test.

Tunze 9001 fits in the middle return chamber, you will need to go with 2 smaller pumps as opposed to one. I personally removed a baffle between the 1st and 2nd chamber and have it sit there.

Icecap K-1 nano will fit in the 2nd chamber without mods

weekly water change and stocked refugium. my 10 gallon has been doing great (knock on wood) doing this for over a year. I have an ATO so the salinity is fairly constant and I can knock out a water change in less then 10 min.
