orangespotted filefish

Just had him for 3-4 days. He is in my non-photosynthetic 30gal tank. It is part of my sps system (180 DT 65 sump). He has been sleeping in that gorgonian, the current holds him in place. So far all he will eat is pods, wont even look at any thing else. I put a peace of sps in with him, but no interest. He's still pretty shy, but does have a full belly, hoping he doesn't take to eating my NPS. uhuru has been giving my some tips on care for osff

They only eat SPS polyps and nothing else ... I know this from experience. I've actually been successful in getting most of the LFS's here in Shanghai to stop bringing them in as they all die in normal tanks.

If you can sustain him then congrats. I've seen one strip a green A. austera in a matter of a couple of hours, but have never seen them go long on anything else. Beautiful fish, just ain't made for tanks IMO. Good luck.

Many of my sps are growing quite fast. I think I can have a peace for him every day if needed. uhuru has one in a seagrass tank for some time now. I will give him all I can & hope that will be enough.

The success rate is very low unfortunately for the ones that you buy from an LFS. The reason seems to be that they are already too far gone to save. They don't have enough reserve left to endure another stressful transition. Hopefully he starts munching on that sps for you soon. Its going to be a long process in your situation.

Yup when I put a seriatopora frag in my tank it took mine a couple of days to get to it but once he did he completely destroyed like it was just a snack. I've read about some people keeping them in large SPS tanks with minimal damage which I find really amazing. They must have incredible SPS growth.
