When to add macro?

Hi guys,
I will be setting up a macroalgae tank soon and would like to know when I should add the macros, for example before cycling, during cycling or after cycling?
Thank you

As long as you have lights, macro can be added at anytime. It will compete with bacteria for the ammonia.

If you are going to use Chaetomorpha it is best to leave the lights on 24/7 if it is to be connected to your Display, reason being that the macro algae will go sexual and create a big mess in the display if you turn out the lights daily.

Negative sir. Chaeto does not "go sexual" in the manner that others (caulerpa for instance) will "go sexual" -- that's why it's generally a better choice for refugiums.

Good practice is to run the refugium light at night while the display light is off.

I stand corrected, actually I did know that but I forgot that it was the Grape Caulerpa that I was thinking of not Chaeto, but thanks for pointing out my mistake.

Thanks for the replies . I was worried that with the macro my tank would not cycle properly as the macro will use up the ammonia. Oh, and i was planning to use caulerpa for my display and chaeto in my refugium, is that ok? The display will have a day night cycle.
