Nano choice: what would you do?
I can't decide which direction to go for a work 10g nano. Both will be around the same price. I want to keep bright colored softies, LPS, maybe a dersa and a anenome. What would you do?
Plan 1: DIY setup: Sump under the desk Larger skimmer 70 watt Halide and two (possiblly 4) 36watt PC actinics Homemade wooden base and canopy with fans Pros: Doube the water volume = less water changes Better lightening DSB in sump Larger skimmer Cons: A LOT more work to assessemble Not a shiek as a pre-manufactured setup Not self contained Plan 2: Aquapod Plug and play 27 watt PC 6.5K 27 watt PC actinic Pros: Self contained Easy assembly Shiek Cons: Less lightening Less water volume No DSB Nano skimmer

wow, i would go with the 10g with a sump but that really depends on whats good for you ya know. also you should still do the same amount of water changes, you just use less water.

I vote DIY too. You'll be happier in the long run, but careful of salt creep.

The DIY sounds better to me as you get to control what equipment you use as well as increased water volume is always a plus for stability.

Go plug and play. Then, when you kill everything due to user error, at least you won't have wasted all that time on the more elaborate setup.
And, you know it's going to happen, you just know it is...
