Can someone ID what's growing on my LR?

This grey fuzzy stuff is growing and it's spreading kindof fast.

Does it blow off easily, or is it semi-solid?

If it blows off easily and comes apart, it's probably a bacterial mat, often caused by dead organic matter in the area. How old is your tank?

If it's more solid, it could be a spreading sponge. The white/semi-clear ones generally prefer areas out of the light, so you often find it growing out from beneath, or between rocks.

Either one can be siphoned out of the tank, but the sponge will be more difficult to get off.

I've already turned the lights out tonight.. I'll go at it with the baster tomorrow. Thanks. BTW, the tank is a bit over a year old.

+1 for sponge. I’d leave it. It signals a more mature system, congrats!
