that carpet is baked inthe sun for a few hours at least !

i guess these things are tough as nail, but while in our tanks, we give them so much TLC and they still crash, maybe they like it rough

thanks for the pics, please keep them coming, for us who can never efford to go there, these pics provide some peeks into reef

It must be great to be able to collect for your own tank. What are the rule and regulations on collecting.

Some of my best growing corals are the ones that have been a little "abused"

not only they are being baked, they also have to live in dirty water for a few hours. The corals might not die, but the small organism died and dirty the water, all the while the water gets hot. yet still they dont die. in our tank, if something died a few hours or the heater failed for a few hours, the tank crash.

- As you earlier said - many corals look brown/greenish but in a tank would probably color up like nothing before!

Have you thought of taking an ultraviolet torch or light with you on your night expeditions? - I think it would provide some very interesting colors from the corals.

There are some corals that do look good under actinics.

We get fluoro green hammers and torches and the occassional bright purple goni.

No restrictions on personal collection, but there are restrictions for commercially licensed collectors.

The most recent photos were taken in a restricted area where we wern't allowed to collect, so it was a matter of just looking at what was around on the reef (you always find interesting stuff on the reefs be it coral or fish)

Good idea!, might take a uv torch out with me the next time me and Lewy go out at night, but the night tides around here are usually from 12am - 4am and it's DARK out on the reef at night.

I've been to Cape Tribulation, Cairns, Sydney, Melbourne and points south. Darwin wasn't really on my radar until about a year ago. After seeing pics on this thread, it is on my list.
