I have my skimmer next to the filter slide out tray. In order to drop cannister in from the top, I dremeled about 1/8" off the perimeter of the plastic ring from the filter sock. Fits perfectly and now lasts well over a week. The holes were drilled with a 1/4" bit.

I'm a little lazy when it comes to testing for phosphate and nitrates... So no idea.
I was also lazy about cleaning the red Sea socks. So it's a success considering I'm changing that floss on a regular basis now :-) The water looks a lot cleaner, almost polished. When the socks would fill up the water would just flow up and over and a lot of garbage was being recirc back into the tank. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I did the same thing with my 4" filter socks by making some floss cups with my 3d printer.
