I have my skimmer next to the filter slide out tray. In order to drop cannister in from the top, I dremeled about 1/8" off the perimeter of the plastic ring from the filter sock. Fits perfectly and now lasts well over a week. The holes were drilled with a 1/4" bit.

Changing the filter socks is easy. Cleaning them is not. I don't feel like rinsing them, putting them in a bleach bucket, and then finally machine washing them. Wayyyyy too much effort as compared to pull old floss out, then insert new floss. I didn't even have to open the tray.

I'd rather spend that time testing the water an extra time or two than I normally would, than cleaning socks....
How's it going now deputydog95? Have you noticed any change to your NO3 levels?

I'm a little lazy when it comes to testing for phosphate and nitrates... So no idea.

I was also lazy about cleaning the red Sea socks.

So it's a success considering I'm changing that floss on a regular basis now :-)

The water looks a lot cleaner, almost polished. When the socks would fill up the water would just flow up and over and a lot of garbage was being recirc back into the tank.

I did the same thing with my 4" filter socks by making some floss cups with my 3d printer.
