purple up?
Hello, I added the recommended amount of purple up to my tank last night before lights out and my water is still cloudy. I've seen a few threads where people say it should clear in an hour or two, anyone else ever have this problem?

probably not, as the product should not be used, because it simply does not do what it sais it would !
the product is just calcium carbonate. SAND !! it can not dissolve in salt water, so it has absolutly no point ! test your KH and CA++ and MG++, if in line, let it be and it will disapear soon, if not a water change is in order. and I would stop using it ... the product does nothing in seawater. |

It will clear up over time. Purple up will raise your calcium levels but it's an expensive way to do it since I believe a bottle runs about $20 or so. I used to use it all the time and while it does raise your calcium it doesn't stick around for long and I was going through tons of it to keep the calcium at 450.

purple-up worked for me on a couple small tanks. It took real long though.............. you better of using B-ionic

The best part of purple up is watching it make cool clouds.
Two part can be had for wayyyy cheaper and will actually work. I got my supplies bulk and for the cost of one bottle of purple up I can adjust my tanks as needed for about 3 years.

The fine particles of aragonite are not going to dissolve into the tank water, so it will stay cloudy until they settle out somewhere. Depending on whether your system has places for such settling or not, or to be skimmed out or not, that may take a lot longer in some tanks than others.
FWIW, you can get falsely high values to calcium and alkalinity when using Purple Up and other such products due to the suspended calcium carbonate in the water.

such products to me are waste of money. a better approach to keep cal and alk in line will have better firm results and cheaper in long run.

Just raise your calcium alk and mag. You'll have plenty of purple.

Yes indeed. Go for NSW measurements and the rest will take care of itself.

Clear or white
I have been using Purple Tech for about a year and I just got a gallon of Purple UP delivered to my house. I opened the jug and it’s clear liquid. Shook it up for A min and it’s slightly cloudy but nowhere near as white the Purple Tech. The tank didn’t even get cloudy. Is this normal or did I get a diluted home made batch??

When the aragonite powder settles out it should be 1/4 - 1/3 of the bottle. If not I'd say you're right, you got a diluted batch.

The cloudiness, probably has little to do with that stuff and just a bloom. If your using that stuff I assume your tank is new? Just wait it out. It will go away as the bio process matures a litttle

You got to dig up the stuff in the bottom of the bottle, unless it's so old it comes out in chunks of what looks like chalk.
This stuff is waste of money, calcium, Alk and mag are way better solutions. Most of the miracle stuff is in fact a miracle if it does not kill anything over time..... Stick with those parameters of NSW....and you will always be happy.... |

Bottom line, chasing Coraline algae is stupid and a waste of time. Just let it come naturally.

A 5/6 yr old thread about purple up. Hard to believe people are still buying it.
Save your money, buy a nice zoa frag or something instead.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Purple Up, and it's a generally reliable off the shelf product with vendor support. For people who want that and don't mind paying, it's fine.
That said, I agree that there are better solutions, but they're generally only better on price, functionally you get the same end result. I also agree that we should make it clear that this is a 5 year old thread and the OP is probably not still looking for help with their cloudy tank...
