Nuvo 40 Gallon SPS Build
I've browsed the boards for a long time but this will be my first time posting.
After 5 years out of the hobby I'm finally ready to get back in. This will be my fourth reef aquarium and by far the smallest. I've learned a lot from my previous tanks so this build has been well thought out. I decided to do an Innovative Marine-AIO because I don't have much space but wanted to do something nice for my daughter. I'm confident that with the correct planning I can overcome the limitations of the setup to keep SPS. I'll be running a full zeovit setup and surprisingly the reactor works very well in this respect for both flow and ease of agitating the stones. I'll also be running two skimmers to hopefully control nutrients enough to keep picky corals. I'll also be running a Tunze Osmolator and Two Part Dosing Kit to stabilize water chemistry in the smaller setup (All of my previous builds were 200+ gallons). The tank is cycling now with Dry Carib-Sea Special Grade Reef Sand and Fiji Live Rock. Here is the equipment thus far along with a few pictures. I just got back in, from FOWLR 90 gal 15 years ago, and picked up the IM 40 as well. Very happy with tank, and IM skimmer is working great.
What are you going to run in the reactor ?? |

It's a sleek tank LX and very straightforward which I was looking for. I'm going to run zeovit stones through the reactor although a lot of folks would run GFO or Bio-Pellets.

whats the main performance difference between the Tunze 9004 and 9004 dc? what advantage does a dc pump give you? is it worth the additional 50 $?

Hi Steve, I actually went with the DC just because it was rated higher in LPH of air. The skimmer does allow you to control skimmate and air intake from the DC which is nice. I don't know about the other Tunze because I don't have it but I'm actually very pleased with both skimmers on the tank.

The tank is doing great thus far. I've done quite a few tanks and I must say I'm very pleased with the zeovit system. Nutrients have gone from sky high to undetectable following the cycle.
The tank is now stocked with four fish and quite a few corals, mostly acropora, all of which have great color and have nice growth. My only problem was introducing dwarf angel which are pecking all the corals in the tank, and since introduction PE on acros has diminished greatly. Not sure what to do with the Angelfish at this point....I'll try to post some pictures today but this site doesn't want to let me. Any advice? |

pics or it didn't happen. I have had problems with dwarf angels as well. Dunno how people get so lucky with them. I would return it to the store if possible for some store credit. You choose some serious nice gear for the tank. good thing is you will be able to upsize the tank easily without much more investment. Maybe a 36x24x24 tank next with sump

The Live Rock is collecting some brown bacterial film from overdosing ZeoBak and ZeoStart so backing off these for now and will be monitoring nutrients. Nitrate and Phosphate are undetectable currently.
