Retro fit an RD3 to an Alpha 200?
Is it possible?

Sure. It would most likely work amazingly well too and also be much more efficient in terms of power consumption. I have often thought about how an RD3 would work on the Alpha. It would be infinitely easier to fine tune and much more balanced. You'd need the RD3 50 skimmer pump. Any of the RD3 skimmer pumps would work.
You could use either of these 2 pumps that we have on stock. I'd probably suggest the 1500 as it will be more than enough. Once you set it up, you would just need to find the speed that results in the most dense foam. On a 200 sized skimmer, I'd guess the sweet spot on the Alpha would be between 26 and 32 watts depending on sump depth and dissolved organics. There is a smaller internal volume on the cone than a Supermarin 200 or double cone 200 which would likely necessitate a lower wattage than the SM or DC. Those two skimmer typically perform best between 28 and 32 watts on the 200 sized skimmers. This one is a 2000l/hr pump meaning it puts out a bit more air and water flow than the 1500l/hr. You would just run it at a slightly lower wattage than the 1500l/hr pump. These pumps adjust in 1 watt increments and the difference would only be a couple watts from one pump to the next. http://royalexclusiv.com/Skimmer/Red...-l-h::611.html This is a 1500l/hr that we have in stock. It includes a PVC stand that you won't need. Unfortunately we are out of stock on the slightly lesser expensive ones that don't include the stand. http://royalexclusiv.com/Skimmer/Red...-l-h::871.html

Awesome! Nice to know if the AC pump fails I can switch to an RD3!
Do you still have the stand that the AC red dragon pumps sit on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
