Sterilizing Used Equipment

Looking into a few used pieces of equipment for my new setup to save some money...powerhead, maybe dc pump.

How do I make sure I don't transfer anything to my tank from someone else's tanks?

I would run them in bleach and than ro and than vinegar than RO over night. Air dry overnight and you should be good.

If you want to sterilize then use bleach. If you want to clean the build up off then use vinegar.
I would do both depending on the condition it comes in. Maybe vinegar first to knock everything off and then bleach if it comes dirty.

Like disease?

Anything dry won't carry ich, velvet, flukes, etc.
