Frag size?
What is the smallest frag size for SPS. I seen them as small as 1/2in. Would this do well or just die?
Thanks |

For Montiporas it's ok also a small frag but for Acro I prefer to buy at least 1inch long frag IMO

The larger + more growing tips on the frag, IME the faster it'll start to take off. The smaller the frag - the longer it takes.
Yes, I've had things the size of 1/4" grow ... but a year and a half later, it's still 1.5" in size. The 2" frag in a year is 4" ... something to look at.

wentreefgirl, nice growth on that little guy
![]() I had a nice 1.5" piece of the LE Paletta turquoise lovelli and it got burnt up by my RBT when it was on the move. I was left with the tiniest tip...maybe 1/4" but probably smaller. It has finally, a year later grown into a 1" frag with a nice large encrusitng base. I think it might even be throwing out some branch looking tips , but god, has it taken forever. Same for my pink lemonade, it came in at 3/4" and spent the past 6 months encrusting and is finally showing two new branches growing out of the encrusting base. The frag itself is close to 1.5". Some acro corals really need to set down the base before they do much else. For selling frags, if they are going to be 1/2" size base on growth pattern, I try to throw three or four on a plug to get them encrusting and at least more substantial than one weeny little branch.

That little frag looks like the blue purple base and marron polyps. Almost looking like a superman. Its the only one of that color that stayed that color and got more brilliant. I hope it stays that way.

Looks like 1/4- 1/2 in frag will grow but just will take a little longer.I just brought some small frags on ebay. I'll post them when they arrive
and try to update ever 3 month. Price is good but frags are 1/4- 1in Lots of rare and limited. Should I mount 1 per base? |
