Heaters

Need some suggestions on a heater for my 55. I plan down the road to put in on a controller but that will be a few months or more lol. I like my Won but the controller is on the plug and I will be using a DJ switch. I don;t really want to have to sneak behind to check the temp settings. Any suggestions on brand and wattage?

What lighting you using?

I have this
http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...product=EJ1119

Works flawlessly. I think I use it. My tank temperature is steady 80. No fluctuations at all. I have MH lighting which keeps the tank warm from 11 - 10.

I don't know how often the heater is used because of the pumps in the tank keep the temperature up along with the lights.

Lighting will be a 36" T5 unit. Not sure which brand yet but leaning towards the Tek Lights. Forgot to mention I want the heater to be fully submersible too.

I thought the jagers were not full submersible. Thought I read that in the instructions on the one I got. Probably wrong lol. I like that the Finnex ones ahve the remote control that is not on the plug. One their website they have 2 models, the compact and regular. The compact says at 150 watt would heat a 55 gallon but the regular one says I need 300watts. Seems odd. Where is a good spot to get the Finnex? I poked around a marine depot and Live Aquaria but I didn't see them there. I saw Reef stop had a 500 watt but no 300.

Yes they say that on the instructions. Something about a liability thing maybe? I can't remember exactly why.

finnex ones try ebay.

No need to use eBay for those anymore. Mark has it covered!

I use two Finnex titanium heaters, They work well. The controller died after 6 months. I am running a Ranco controller now. Rock solid.

I got the heaters from Premium Aquatics and the Ranco fro DIYreef.

I thought about getting a ranco but if I am planning to get a controller later on it seemed like and excess expense.

DrBDC I saw they had the 500 watt. I will have to email them and see if they can get the 300.
