I had sen das skimmers many years ago and I always thought they worked well.I didn't know much about reefing back then but I do remember they produced a nice amount of bubbles.I don't know if you could do some kind of mesh mod to improve lph

You all should look at www.protein-skimmer.com He uses thick acrylic and you can get the same set up as the DAS including the aquabee pump. I just got a quote for a custom skimmer three aquabee pumps 8.5 OD with a flanged riser 4in 599.99.

i own a EX-2 and a EX-3, the acrylic work is very poorly done. The collection cups are uneven and some are even slanted. The joints leak and the thing is put together like crap. I just got the EX-3 lets see what it can do i guess.

Not sure I understand why you would get another one if you had such bad experiences?

why didn't you send it back? How are you liking the performance of the skimmer. i see you are from manhattan reefs and the DAS has been getting a lot good reviews on that site. I have almost read the entire skimmer thread on that forum.

The build on my EX-1 is pretty good and so far it has been performing well. I really like having a direct drain to my skimmer.

emailed petorma tonight and got quick response. I was wondering why after placing order on the 26th that my confirmation # wasnt good yet and my debit card had not been charged. They informed me that card is not billed until ready to ship out. I am hoping they ship out soon.

They don't carry a lot of units in stock - they have to get them direct from DAS in Waxahachie. As I've found in the past, DAS is a little slow in gettng to the phone sometimes.

My tank has only been up about 10 or 12 days so all I'm pulling out right now is fines from my sandbed.

1x-1.5x system volume. So for my 90gal+30fuge = 120-180gph i wouldn't put much more that 200ghp through the skimmer.

And i think you order a day before me. I just ordered yesterday afternoon.

Looking for a skimmer and this looks like a great value. I'm looking to set up a 150 with 50gl sump... so I guess I need a EX 2... would this be enough... I will not add corals until perhaps one year from now.... is this external only? How does this compare to skimmers such as the ones from trigger systems and the octopus brand?

ex-1 might work but i would get the ex-2. Also you can put this in a sump/fuge or you can get the BX-2 which is the internal version of the ex-2. I don't know much about the trigger systems skimmer but the ex-2 will out perform an octopus brand skimmer of the same price. Octopus was a very good deal when they first came out but now they have almost double the price.
