Best tankmate for firefish?

What do you have that works best in your nano with these guys? Looking for one tankmate in my 20 high. So, I'm thinking blenny/goby/tiny angel (the pacific kind that only gets to 1 to 2 inches long.

Thanks,

-Tom

I'd go with a blenny. I like the starry blenny. Even thougth I have a tail spot I would go back to my starry.

A lion fish would be nice ...............................just kidding!

My firefish gets along very well with my yellow watchman and hi-fin red barred goby, and also my perc. clown.

My mom has a Yashia Goby in with her firefish in one of her Nano's and they "school" together...it looks pretty cool! She also has a selection of tiny gobies too and they all get along; Trimma Goby, Yellow clown goby and did have another clown goby in there also.

Though this probably isn't the answer you are looking for, my clown and firefish get along very well.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that they swim together, but they will sit side by side in the current. Have never had a problem.
oh, false perc clown

I had my firefish in a 24 gallon with a spotted mandarin, white sleeper goby, and two pajama cardinals. They all got along fine. That same group is now in a 56 with a coral beauty and a few shrimp.

How did the mandarin do in your 24? Were you able to get it to eat frozen mysis etc?

it's all up to the individual fish, as my osc. clown beat the living hell out of my yellow clown goby and shredded his fins--I tried it in my 12g and 16g tanks with TONS of rock and hiding places--to no avail. So the goby went to my 70g tank.
I'd stay safer by sticking to peaceful fish--angel would be a risk, clowns a small risk (they are related to damsels, I believe)--unless you want to extract a fish if you have problems.

I would not recommend a pink skunk clownfish. Mine is terribly mean to my firefish and chases him through the rocks and caves on a regualr basis!

What's the lifespan on a presumably healthy young helfrichi?

Beautiful helfrichi Bigperm1! How much did you pay for it ? If you don't mind me asking. I love them but they always seem so darn expensive . Dr. Fosters is selling them for 169 bucks as apposed to 10 dollars for more common firefish!

haha, i've been asked that a few times.

I didn't pay anything for it. Got him free if you can believe that. I picked out some liverock, came back to pick it up a few days later and they had stuck it into some display tank. Well, this rock had a nice cave for him, and he wouldn't come out. They fused around for a bit then gave up and just said "you can have it".

I didn't even know it's value at the time and I was like "well... it better not hurt my tank

Turns out I got a sweet deal

I also recommend more peaceful fish with firefish as they're pretty timid. They'll also jump if they freak out too much if you have an uncovered tank.

My recommendations would be in the dartfish family (like the firefish is)...if you have a red firefish, they look great with a purple (or vice versa), I also had my red one with a scissortail dartfish and they swam and hung out together. I think a bar goby would also be nice with the firefish...I've been debating a pairing such as this in my tank.
