Some pictures of the progress of my 65
Here are some images of how my 65 is coming along.
THis is last week when I was starting to fill it up. And here we have it today, full and with rock. As you can see the Rock is not in place yet. I just wanted to get it in the tank and get the water moving. This is the Sump. It is only a 29 but that is all I could fit under the stand =\ Return pump is a Mag 9.5 And here is the plumbing in the main tank. Nothing fancy at all. Just a split return with Loc-Line on the ends for adjustable flow. Lighting will be from 4 36" HO-T5s I am a bit worried about flow right now. The returns don't have near the flow I was expecting and it has me more than a little worried. I really don't want to run any power-heads in here but I am afraid I may have to. |

Nice tank and stand. Have you tried to turn off the pump and see if you are going to have a flood. It doesn't look like you have a look of room for the extra water if the power goes out. (just a thought)

i have a mag 9.5 in my 65g, just like yours, except that my plumbing only comes out of the megaflow, no extra loclines.... i dont think it has enough pressure to run more nozzles, so i have a couple PH in my tank, id say bump it up to at least a mag12

Yeah there is a bit to much water in it right now but I have tested it and get no water overflow when the pump is off. I get the feeling you are right about the split flow being the problem. I may have to add one PH and just use the return for one nozzle. =\
I originally had it split to three and that was useless. |

Wow! looks like you might have a micro bubble problem, maybe the mag 9 is too big?

Looks like to much flow in that sump to me too. Could just be the pic..
All the turbluence and bubbles from it will get old real quick. Not only from microbubbles, but massive amounts of salt creep from the looks of that pic. Might just be how your overflow is setup... I use a 900 gph return pump on a similar setup (though I have many more baffles), but my flow is also cut to 400-450 gph due to plumbing and head pressure, which I planned for. I think you want to aim for less than 400 GPH through that sump...

No I do indeed have a MB problem. I am working on it now. Going to cut back to one return nozzel and try my Mag 7 again. We will see what happens.

ok, going back to the mag 7 solved the problem, along with my noise problem. Guess I will have to use at least one power-head =\

I am debating right now. I can either go with 36 inch HO-T5s or 36 inch VHOs. The advantage of the VHOs is that I currently have the ballast and would just need the bulbs and Reflector. this will probably be a bit cheaper than a whole new HO-T5 setup.
What do you all think. Are T5s THAT much better? |

if you want to do a soft coral tank, then go with VHOs
if you want sps than t5 will provide more light either way you can have a beautiful tank, sam
