Painting my canopy

I am going to be painting the inside of my canopy bright white to help with light reflection. Any recommendations on brand or type of paint to use for best results? I obviously want something durable due to the conditions it will be in.

I use a good oil based primer first, and then a couple coats of RUSTOLEUM glossy white. all exterior grade. keeps the wood in good shape and reflects very well.

well it sounds like the general consensus is to get oil based paint, and primer. That what I was figuring, but felt safer to ask first. Sounds like I will be making a trip to Home Depot tonight.

It works great and it helps get rid of the center brace shadow affect . Just don't screw it down super tight it will crack .

I had to router a 48"x12" hole out the top of my canopy to sit my Hamilton light on top, it sits down in a 1/4" groove so no light bleeds out between the light and the canopy, but it is above the inside plane of my canopy... do you think mirrored plexi would be beneficial in my case since the light will actually be sitting above the mirror, and the mirror plexi will only be surrounding it. or do you think i would be better off just painting the inside white to help make it brighter instead of the black canopy?

The choice is all yours...
You can paint it and see what you think ,Or you could install mirror i guess it all depends on what you feel like .
Mirror was my first choice only because i hate oil based paint .

I used a good oil based sealer/primer paint then painted with Valspar exterior paint. It was also oil based.

Has been a couple of years and still I don't see any signs of water damage to the paint or wood,

If it were me I would paint with the oil based paint at least 2 coats of Primer and 2 of paint even if I used the mirrored acrylic.

JMO The paint is extra protection just incase water should get past the acrylic.
