9010

I purchased a tunze 9010 about three months ago... it is in a FOWLR 90 Gallon, and runs well... my question is, should i just be getting a thick black pudding like substance on the INSIDE of the narrow part of the cup leading toward the top, or should i be getting many cc's of dark water in the collection cup? Right now i have to wipe out the inside of the tunnel daily to get out this black sludge, but i do not get many cc's of water... the bubbles are breaking at least halfway up the collection cup. Hi bunkerboy,

You could try raising the height of the skimmer a little if you have already adjusted airflow.

Regards
Graeme

The sludge is normal and breaks the foam down, normally though cleaning this weekly should suffice. I agree with Graeme, raise it about 1/4-1/2" and open the air flow about 1/4 turn more.

So is the ultimate goal a dark water that forms in the collection cup, or is it the dark sludge? Bunker

You will get both, the skimmate will generally be the color of light coffee to dark tea but sludge innevitably forms on the cup wall as well.
