GFO or Phosgaurd?
Which pulls out more phosphates GFO or Phosgaurd? Dollar to dollar. it seems that phosguard is about 60% less money per vollume.
I just noticed that the directions on Phosgaurd says it get exhasted in about 4 days. im wondering if it works faster than GFO. Has any one compared these?

The PhosGuard contains aluminum, and so it's not recommended. It's cheaper per volume, but it's not clear that it's cheaper per gram of phosphate removed. GFO can stay in the system and work for a long time.

I've been using phosguard for a couple of weeks now on recommendation from my LFS. I just read about the Aluminum issue with this product and was doing some research for a replacment. What is GFO and will it work in a media bag placed in a high flow area of my refugium?
Thanks, Mike |

This article covers GFO products:
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-11/rhf/index.php They are usually run in a reactor or a canister filter. High flow isn't necessarily good, since it can cause the GFO media to break up.

I've used Phosphate Killer, and that seems fine. Warner PhosAr HC has gotten very good reviews.

Can be used in the sump, in a canister filter or fluidized reactor. |
