Help with water.

Well today is the day to start filling up my tank! I am so happy the time has come. I need to get this done soon because I have 2 tangs that need the room. I need to make 200+ gallons of RO/DI water. If anyone in the Surprise area can help out making some water I would really be thankful! My system will not make 200+ gallons in a day. If you can help out please call my cell at 623-523-2253. If I do not answer leave a message and I will call back.

Why do you need all new water? Aren't you using the water from your old tank to go into this one with fresh water to make up the difference? All new water will shock everything if you add them not to long after.

Wouldn't that stress the fish more having one tank drained while the other fills? Not sure where I could put them while doing this. I would like to reuse the water since making 200+ would be a 2-3 day project at least without any help.

Make the water you need get it in the new tank super areate it and when ready put fish in bucket and pump the old tank water in then add fish . This will be way less harsh on them then them going into uncycled/bacteria less water.

Put your fish in a 5 gallon bucket while you empty tank. Old water plus new water.

I am going to run out to Lowes in a few and get a couple of them. Put the fish in one, my corals in the other. Then maybe one for moving the rock.

How much sand so you guys think I should keep from the old tank?

Also what I keep should it be the top layer in the new tank?

I'd take a few cup fulls of sand, or even the top 1/2" or so. Just dump it right on top of the new sand. When I moved everything from a 20g to the 70g, I reused all my sand (there wasn't much) and just put it right on top of the new stuff.

Check to make sure your new water params match the old, and even then, I might think about doing a quick(ish) acclimation just to be safe.

For major tank fills I would take some 5 gal containers to the RO machines. Just a thought.
