Ca reactor effluent dkh low

I have setup the Korallin ca reactor using the millwaukee ph controller. It is currently keeping the effluent in the 6.6 to 6.7 range for the ph while the dkh of the effluent is only in the 18 to 19 range. Everything I have read says you want your effluent to at least have a dhk of 25 while some even say in the 30-50 range. Anyone have any experience with this or any comments I would appreciate it .

Thanks
Jerrod

I am also using the caribsea geo marine florida crushed coral for the media.

may be the media being used. May not dissolve properly at that high of a PH. Just from what i've read this would be my guess. May try lowering the PH control to 6.5 or so and see if that raises the DKH of the effluent enough.

Agree with the gimp. Paul used the crushed coral and maybe a few others can chime in on this one.

Just to toss this out there, I have found that I had to calibrate my Milwaukee pH probe for a few days before I got it to measure consistently. I know it sounds wierd, but even after just 24 hours, the pH probe was giving me wrong readings. After about a few days of it in continuous use and daily re-calibration, it finally settled in and gave me consistent readings.

I guess, I am suggesting that you recalibrate. And then recalibrate 24 hours later.

Then, if still not getting what you want after confident in your pH readings, lower it slightly to get to a pH that gives your a dKH reading above 25 consistently. Don't adjust it too quickly, perhaps not more than .1 pH per day.

Just my thoughts...
