I've seen the mod written up, but I've never tried it. Have you seen this product:
(No luck with the link; its the Algae Free Sure Flow kit on Marine Depot, basically, it boosts the mj1200 to 2000gph or more) |

There are a couple of pre-made mods out there that should work better than trying to do it yourself. I would recommend one of those over trying to find all the parts.
Good luck, let us know how it comes out. |

The algae free mod is a bit noisy due to the design of the Maxi-Jet. The powerhead is made to run bi-directionally, which means that the impeller may spin either way when it is turned on. This isn't an issue when you use the parts that are intended for the pump, but the algae free parts don't seat perfectly on the impeller. So if at first the algae free mod is noisy, I would say shake it a little bit or power it up and down a few times. Eventually the impeller should seat better and the noise "should" go away. You do not want to put that mod on a timer or wavemaker.
Of course this shouldn't affect the mod from the youtube video, since they are using all the original equipment.
